Thank you to all who attended our virtual Harvesting Hope 2020!

Our September 30 fundraiser was inspiring, beginning and ending with the dazzling, high-energy sounds of Big Lux Violin, performing on location at City Farm. The Westerly-born hip hop artist set the tone for an evening highlighting local talent and honoring local resilience during the pandemic.

“Guests” who pre-ordered SCLT’s “locavore party kits” prepared their delicious meals before the start of the program at home. Following Big Lux the evening featured greetings from past and current Board Presidents Louis Raymond and Rochelle Lee, a virtual panel discussion about how SCLT’s work impacts youth and farmers, and a video describing our efforts during the past year to stem rising food insecurity caused by the coronavirus. The program ended with exciting news about our future home at 404 Broad Street. (The remediation and demolition are underway!)

We want to acknowledge all who contributed to the locavore party kits, beginning with SCLT’s Craig Demi and Alejandra Mayorga, who procured the fresh vegetables and herbs from small-scale farmers in our Produce Aggregation Program. The other ingredients – wines and cocktails, tea and desserts – came from new and familiar local businesses (shout-outs below). We hope you continue to support them and other area food and restaurant businesses struggling to make it through these difficult times.
