Thank you to all who attended our virtual Harvesting Hope 2020!

Our September 30 fundraiser was inspiring, beginning and ending with the dazzling, high-energy sounds of Big Lux Violin, performing on location at City Farm. The Westerly-born hip hop artist set the tone for an evening highlighting local talent and honoring local resilience during the pandemic.

“Guests” who pre-ordered SCLT’s “locavore party kits” prepared their delicious meals before the start of the program at home. Following Big Lux the evening featured greetings from past and current Board Presidents Louis Raymond and Rochelle Lee, a virtual panel discussion about how SCLT’s work impacts youth and farmers, and a video describing our efforts during the past year to stem rising food insecurity caused by the coronavirus. The program ended with exciting news about our future home at 404 Broad Street. (The remediation and demolition are underway!)

We want to acknowledge all who contributed to the locavore party kits, beginning with SCLT’s Craig Demi and Alejandra Mayorga, who procured the fresh vegetables and herbs from small-scale farmers in our Produce Aggregation Program. The other ingredients – wines and cocktails, tea and desserts – came from new and familiar local businesses (shout-outs below). We hope you continue to support them and other area food and restaurant businesses struggling to make it through these difficult times.

A big thank you to Harvesting Hope partners:

Big Lux Violin is truly extraordinary – as you heard for yourself (and can enjoy again in the livestream broadcast above). He’s talented, great to work with (and available for hire!).

The recipe designed just for Harvesting Hope by Chef Matt Varga (and demonstrated below by John Maccini and Jordan Fleischer of Gracie’s Ventures) was fabulous.

If you want to enjoy Gracie’s delicacies without having to prepare them yourself, they offer outdoor dining Wednesday through Saturday. Or, consider breakfast, lunch, coffee or takeaway from Ellie’s, a Parisian-style cafe.

Enjoy the huge selection of wine, beer and more from Bottles Fine Wine. Browse safely in-store or order online for local delivery.

Did you try the signature cocktail curated by Industrious Spirit Company? ISCO features new cocktails each week, made by bartenders-in-residence. Enjoy music in their safe, socially distanced outdoor patio.

Visit the Hope Street Farmers Market on Saturdays to find the best scallops by Triton Seafood Co., mushrooms by RI Mushroom Co. and fresh, local chicken by Pat’s Pastured (and, of course, get your fresh produce from SCLT’s City Farm stand).

Enjoy free shipping through October from The Black Leaf Tea Co., and, if you need a little sweet to get through some sour times, or a fancy cake just ’cause, order festive treats online for pickup from Cakes by Eboni.

We would be remiss if we didn’t encourage you to shop for veggies and herbs grown by SCLT’s farming heroes available at Sankofa Market. Interested in ordering in bulk from our Aggregation Program? Contact

Finally, we want to thank our corporate sponsors, who helped make SCLT’s first (and hopefully last?) virtual fundraiser a memorable experience for all.
