SCLT’s Urban Agriculture Kick-Off – lovingly called UAKO by those in the know – has been a staple of the urban agriculture scene in Providence for years. In 2024, we welcome urban farmers, backyard gardeners, and regenerative agriculture enthusiasts to SCLT’s headquarters and Healthy Food Hub to honor the coming season. Gather with community at 404 Broad Street in Providence on Saturday, March 30 from 10:00am to 1:00pm for this free and family-friendly event, open to the public. This event is rain or shine.

UAKO features seed giveaways, activities for kids, farm and building tours, and a regenerative agriculture workshop at City Farm, Rhode Island’s longest operating urban farm. Bring your most burning urban agriculture-related questions to our “Ask the Expert” table and find out how to give your native pollinator garden a boost or how to finally get that stubborn shrub to grow.

Attendees may also sign up for annual SCLT Membership at UAKO, which includes 50 gallons of organic compost. Those who include the free compost with their annual SCLT Membership will be able to take home high-quality, organic compost from the event. Remember, this is a BYOB event: Bring Your Own Bucket! The compost pickup area will be on Hayward Street between SCLT headquarters and the Somerset Hayward Youth Enterprise Farm, as it was last year. Volunteers will be available to help with loading compost. SCLT Members will find information about other pickup sites in their membership letter.
