Born in Rwanda to Burundian parents, Isabelle and her family were uprooted when she was 8 due to regional wars. Over the next several years, they moved among Burundi, Congo and Tanzania before finding a home in Belgium.
It was there she became a citizen and, for the first time in a while, felt she was no longer a refugee.
Isabelle followed true love and moved to Providence in 2012 to be with her husband. She has a BA in accounting, and has worked as an interpreter, teaching assistant and community health worker. She loves gardening, working with children, spending time with friends, dancing and running in the park. She and her husband have three young children.
