Join us for an immersive workshop on the age-old art of canning foods, where we’ll dive into the wonderful world of preservation, making tomato sauce to take home!

Whether you’re a novice or have some experience, this workshop is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively can a variety of foods.

During this hands-on session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of canning, including the different methods such as water bath canning and pressure canning, and when each is appropriate. Our expert instructor will guide you through the step-by-step process, from selecting the freshest ingredients to sealing your jars for long-lasting freshness.

You’ll gain insights into the importance of proper sanitation and safety precautions to prevent spoilage and ensure your canned goods remain safe to consume. We’ll also explore the science behind preserving foods, including the role of acidity and heat in inhibiting bacterial growth.

This workshop is cohosted by Tarshire Battle, Director of Special Projects for Southside Community Land Trust and a Master Gardener, and Andraly Horn, organic farmer at Open fArms Retreat and Mindful Outdoor Guide.
