Sebastian has operated Creative Shepherd Farm in Ava, NY, since 2009, specializing in farmstead cheese and organic produce. Prior to that (with a few years of overlap) he was a middle and high school science teacher in Lansdowne and Lower Merion, Penn.He’s also been a research assistant professor at Drexel University working on applied environmental science in aquatic systems.
Sebastian earned a BS in Environmental Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as well as an MS and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Drexel. For the past four years he has operated a social enterprise that helps small farmers and artisans in Ecuador to export and sell their goods in the U.S. called Paraiso del Pastor. He also founded North Country Farmers Harvest Relief, which sends proceeds from farmers’ excess harvests to disaster victims.
“I’m excited to bring my passion for organic farming, food justice, teaching and learning to Southside,” said Sebastian. “I can’t wait to meet more of the gardeners and farmers that make up our community, and to see their work in action at farms and markets all around as spring blooms!”
Sebastian has an 11-year-rold daughter named Dalija. He grew up in Bridgeport, Conn.
