Jazandra is a native of Providence and a lover of all things food and communal. They spent many summers playing and learning in their grandfather’s garden, which is what led them back to the South Side and the work here at SCLT.
Jazandra studied and lived in North Carolina, earning a degree from Johnson and Wales University’s Charlotte campus in Culinary Arts and Foodservice management in 2011. From there they worked in various kitchens, honing skills and developing a greater understanding of the importance of plant foods in our diets and in local agriculture. They returned to Rhode Island in 2016, and most recently served as a Community Nutrition Educator with the University of Rhode Island’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).
Fun fact: Jazandra’s middle name, Cynara, is a genus of thistle-like perennial plants in the sunflower family, from the Greek word ‘kynara’, which means “artichoke”.
