China’s Hmong and Vietnamese family have been in Rhode Island since 1979, and have a long history of growing their own food. She grew up visiting her grandparents’ large vegetable plots, and saw gardening as “a source of income, a hobby and passion. It’s also fascinating and therapeutic.”
China came to SCLT in 2016 as a freshman at Providence College, serving as a season-long City Farm intern. Since then, she’s applied her versatile skill set to temporary stints in SCLT’s development office, at the Farm or wherever needed. Meanwhile, she has continued to pursue a double major in business management and public community service at PC.
In 2020, China was rehired to help manage the Providence youth program, bringing her urban agriculture knowledge, nonprofit experience and enthusiasm about healthy food access. We’re fortunate to have her back!
