Long-time SCLT Board Chair Louis Raymond will be stepping aside this summer, making way for current Vice Chair Rochelle Lee to fill the top position. Both have been tireless advocates for SCLT. Though we will deeply miss Louis, we expect Rochelle’s leadership to be equally dynamic and productive.
Despite moving to Key West next month, Louis plans to remain on the Board. A landscape designer with clients around the country, he has not only brought deep knowledge and relevant experience to his role at SCLT, but seemed to turn every new acquaintance into a convert to our cause.
Please help us celebrate his board tenure on Mon., July 1, at the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn at 17 Matunuck Beach Road in Wakefield, from 5-7:30 pm. We’ll provide hors d’oeuvres and wine at a self-serve bar, which we invite you to help us stock with your favorite libations. Please RSVP and purchase your $10 ticket here: (This is a suggested price and by no means mandatory. We just know that some of you will want to help us cover the costs of the great food and atmosphere!)
Bring your favorite Louis story, and help us welcome Rochelle. Capacity is limited to 55 guests, so don’t wait to sign up.
Currently a resident of the South Side, Rochelle has worked in education, community development and leadership development for 35 years, helping to advance civil rights, health equity, economic justice, youth and family policy and legislation. She has held positions in the Pawtucket Public Schools, Codman Square Neighborhood Redevelopment Association, National Equity Fund, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and the Boston Housing Authority.
Rochelle’s community service includes posts at the RI Human Rights Commission; past president of the RI Association of Fundraising Professionals; past Board Secretary and Vice Chair of the RI Public Transit Authority; and a seat on RI’s 1691 Commission to examine how to better integrate African American history within public education. She is an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Massachusetts, Boston University and Wellesley College.
We’re looking forward to her broad expertise, calm demeanor and collaborative approach as we manage our GROW! capital campaign and eventual transition to 404 Broad Street.
