Urban Agriculture Task Force

The Urban Agriculture Task Force is a fifty-member, city-wide coalition of growers, community development organizations, government agencies, chefs, landscapers, anti-hunger advocates, healthy professional, and environmentalists dedicated to promoting practices and policies to strengthen our city’s local food system.

Recent collaborative projects of the Urban Agriculture Task Force include:

  • Plant Providence calendar – The Urban Agriculture Task Force planned and coordinated the first-ever city-wide calendar dedicated to urban agriculture in 2010. • A city-wide compost initiative – Under the leadership of Southside Community Land Trust and the Environmental Council of Rhode Island, the Urban Agriculture Task Force began organizing for a city-wide compost initiative in 2009.

The Urban Agriculture Task Force, founded in 2004, brings together community development groups, farmers, chefs, policymakers, and health care professionals to promote practices and policies that strengthen Providence's local food system.
