The Urban Agriculture Task Force is a fifty-member, city-wide coalition of growers, community development organizations, government agencies, chefs, landscapers, anti-hunger advocates, healthy professional, and environmentalists dedicated to promoting practices and policies to strengthen our city’s local food system.
Recent collaborative projects of the Urban Agriculture Task Force include:
Plant Providence calendar – The Urban Agriculture Task Force planned and coordinated the first-ever city-wide calendar dedicated to urban agriculture in 2010. The calendar offers a listing of food-growing workshops, events, and celebrations throughout the year. You can find the calendar posted at local businesses and at www.plantprovidence.org.
A city-wide compost initiative – Under the leadership of Southside Community Land Trust and the Environmental Council of Rhode Island, the Urban Agriculture Task Force began organizing for a city-wide compost initiative in 2009.
