Growing up in Bangladesh, some of Nayeema’s most enjoyable childhood moments were spent in the family garden and watching her mother, a teacher, prepare meals with the food they grew. After nearly a decade working in architecture Nayeema changed course, making time to raise her family and pursue her interest in urban homesteading. She experimented with growing fruits and vegetables in her suburban Phoenix home. (Sometimes she even used water!) Nayeema also organized seed swaps at the local library and screened movies on food and environmental justice. After taking SCLT’s Market Growers course in 2015, Nayeema was recruited to work at City Farm. Someday she hopes to have her own market garden, complete with chickens.
