Joao’s earliest experience in a community garden was as a middle school student at Community Preparatory School, kitty corner from SCLT’s office, when he and classmates visited City Farm. Ten years later, he’s working with children and high school students from both South Providence and Pawtucket as a part of SCLT’s Youth Farm & Garden Education Programs. (We’re glad he’s back in the neighborhood!)
Joao graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in Environmental Conservation and Sustainability. His passion for the outdoors has taken him from the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the coastal estuaries of southern Rhode Island, and across the Pacific to the “Land of the Long White Cloud,” New Zealand. He spent four months there during college studying environmental science and ecology at the EcoQuest Educational Foundation, in Whakatiwai. Joao loves working with children, teaching them about local and sustainable food, and have some fun while doing it.
