Youth Garden Clubs

The Garden Club initiative builds on Southside Community Land Trust’s twenty-two year history with youth garden projects in the greater Providence area. Youth Garden Clubs ensure sustainability and year-round programming for participating schools and community organizations. Clubs work from a prepared Garden Club manual designed to assist Club Leaders with curriculum development and guide students’ learning in the garden environment. Our expanding network of Community based Youth Garden Clubs will enable participants to share strengths and learn from each others’ experiences.

Currently SCLT is working with two Garden Clubs, one in Olneyville and one in South Providence. In Fall 2004, with your help, we will start two new Garden Clubs in our community.

Program Goals

  • Work with schools and community groups to design sustainable, community based garden clubs
  • Nurture and empower young people to design and utilize their garden space to explore topics such as:
    • Nutrition
    • The urban environment
    • Growing vegetables and flowers
    • Anti-hunger & food accessibility
