Summer Opportunities at Southside Community Land Trust

 

Youth Garden Club Assistant Leaders

 

In partnership with the YMCA and Bailey Elementary School, and the Olneyville Community Schools Initiative and D'Abate Elementary School, SCLT has helped design and bring gardens into Providence school system. YGC Assistant Leaders will help students plant, cultivate, harvest and eat from these unique yoputh-driven garden classrooms! Our youth Garden Clubs run as after-school programs during the school year, and as summer programs from June-August.

 

Dates: year-round, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/ Thursady afternoons

Feild Trip Leaders

 

Feild trips to SCLT's City Farm expose students to the wonder of our urban agricultural environment. Through hands-on activites, experiments, and exploration, young people experience the roots of theior nutrition. Feild trips topics include compost and living soil, plant life and parts, insects' role in garden environment, urban agriculture, and local food systems.

City Farm Volunteers

 

City Farm is a 3/4 acre sustainable urban farm in the heart of South Providence and serves as a working model of urban agriculture. Once a neglected vacant lot, City Farm demonstartes the productivity of biointensive growing methods for vegatbles, herbs, and flowers. Volunteers help the City Farm Manager(Rich Pederson) with general farm maintenance and harvests for farmers markets.

 

Dates: May-October, depending on the needs of City Farm Manager!
